Estimated from German discount supermarket prices (Aldi and Lidl) in October 2026. Only the amount used is counted, not the whole pack. Prices vary by store and country.
Ingredients
- 250 g flour
- 7 g dry yeast
- 150 ml warm milk
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp oil and a pinch of salt
- 250 g mozzarella, grated
- 100 g feta, crumbled
- 3 eggs (1 for the filling, 2 yolks for the top)
- 30 g butter
Steps
- Mix the flour, yeast, warm milk, sugar, oil and salt into a soft dough. Knead for 5 minutes and let it rise for 1 hour.
- Mix the mozzarella and feta with 1 egg.
- Split the dough in two. Roll each into an oval, roll the long sides inward and pinch and twist the ends into a boat shape.
- Fill the boats with the cheese and bake at 220°C (200°C fan) for 12–15 minutes until golden.
- Make a dip in the cheese, drop in an egg yolk and bake 2–3 minutes more.
- Add a knob of butter, stir it all together and tear off the crust to dip.
Momo's tips
- Twist the ends tightly so the boat keeps its shape in the oven.
- Add the yolk at the end so it stays runny.
- Stir the yolk and butter into the hot cheese right at the table.
Handy to have
- Baking tray
- Rolling pin
- Box grater
